Coolant recycling improves uptime and profit

Even in small amounts, treatment and recycling of coolant and cutting fluids can generate profits, both economic and environmental

Where can it be used ?

It can be used in almost every machining application that uses water based emulsions as coolants, wash fluids, de-burring fluids and grinding fluids.

Typical applications for Filtration/Separation:

Cutting oils (Separation of solid particles from cutting oil). Typical application: Gear cutting and auto lathe (repetition turned parts) Lubriserv have range of suitable filtration equipment dependant on individual applications.

Water based cutting fluids (Filtration of solid particles and tramp oil and handling of grits) Grinding and cutting fluids include besides water and lubricants, bactericides to depress the growth of fungus and bacteria, and corrosion preventives. A contaminated fluid is less resistant against attack from microbes and also clogs the coolant passage between the cutting edges of grinding wheels or cutting tips. The consequences will be the “burn marks” on the ground surfaces and glazing the grinding wheel or poor surface finish on machined components. It is utmost important that soluble fluids are free from solid particles and tramp oil. Lubriserv offer a range of suitable equipment for this dependant on individual applications; these include hydro cyclones, magnet filters, and most widely used paper band filters.

Grinding neat oils (Filtration of solid particles and treatment of grinding chips) In the grinding operation where a greater material removing occurs a greater lubrication will be needed to save the grinding wheel. In these grinding operations neat oil may be applied as grinding fluid in order to achieve the necessary lubrication. Neat oil for gear grinding requires high filtration quality and can be attained in a pre-coat filtration system or edge-filters – contact us for more information.

Washing liquids (Separation of tramp oil and solid particles and increase the interval of fluid change)Washing liquids at conventional chamber and tunnel washing machines normally use detergents (alkaline). Washing liquid with detergents heat up to temperature of 60 – 80 The washing liquid after the operation is contaminated with oil and solid particles. The liquid can be cleaned in Lubriserv’s media bed separators or tilted plate systems.

Glass grinding fluids (Separation of solid particles and treatment of grits) The most of the particles from glass grinding are of very small size, < 5µ that are very difficult to separate from the coolant. Coolant contaminated with particles reduces the speed of the grinding, muck up and wear the machine, clogging the spray nozzles which cause rejects, and sludge build up in the coolant sump that cause heavy expenditure for weekly clean out. Lubriserv-s 3-bowl centrifuge is excellent on these applications.

Grinding fluids for hard material grinding (Separation of solid particles and treatment of grits) Particles generated in the grinding operation are of very small dimension at 2 – 5 µ in diameter. Grinding fluids with high content of particles reduce the grinding speed and dirty the machine tool and coolant tank requiring heavy maintenance. Lubriserv’s centrifuges can be used for coolant cleaning.

Honing fluids (Separation of particles) Honing oils are normally of relatively low viscosity. These liquids are used as coolant in cutting operations of extremely fine surfaces, e.g. piston cylinders and knives where high surface finish is required. For this reason the requirements on the cleanness of the coolant are high. Contaminants in the coolant consist of very fine metal chips. Lubriserv’s high-speed centrifuges are commonly used in this process.

Rumbling (Separation of solid particles and recycling of process and treatment of wastes) The compound fluid mixtures from rumbling machines are environmentally hazardous due the high contents of heavy metals from metal fines produced in the rumbling operation. The size of these particles is mostly less than 10µ, and some of them are of sub-micron size that is not possible to separate or filter by common practical methods. A Lubriserv UF-system in combination with tilted plates separators can be used.

Oily waste water (Separation of tramp oil and solid particles and waste disposal) In the industrial process wastewater with different sorts of contaminations occur, containing floating and sedimentary characters. In some cases the waste fluids can be recycled after purification. Oil from the purification of oily water can be purified further for heat production. Our tramp oil separators, either media bed or tilted plate are ideal.

Pickling fluids (Separation of particles) Separators for these applications are manufactured in mild steel and lined with acid resistant material such as polypropylene (PP) plastic material or rubber. The lamella plates are usually made in pp-plastic. Separators are usually manufactured in accordance with customer’s specifications. As the ion content of metal raise formation of salt crystals in the acid bath. The purpose of the separator is to remove the crystallized salts out of the bath.
